Today I want to share with you my top 10 beauty tips for a flawless face of makeup! Of course, I’m not saying this is how you HAVE to do your makeup, I’m just giving some tips that have worked for me in the past.
Skincare is essential for flawless makeup. Taking care of your skin is also so important as it reduces the amount of wrinkles you get when you age, keeps your skin looking plump and can also keep your face from getting oily (it’s true). If your face gets quite oily and you don’t moisturise, this may be because your skin is so dry and so your pores secrete oil to moisturise your skin! Exfoliating, cleansing, toning, applying serum and moisturiser before doing your makeup will create a flawless canvas for you to work upon and will make your base makeup look amazing! If you feel your base makeup looks dull, go ahead and try this tip!
2) Blending is crucial
Yep, you’ve heard it so many times, but blending is so crucial to having great makeup. No matter whether it’s your foundation, powder, bronzer, eyeshadow or even eyebrows, blending is the key. No one wants harsh lines on their face, you want your makeup to look as “natural” as possible (I don’t mean literally natural, but you get what I mean). If you love having harsh lines in your makeup then that’s absolutely fine, makeup has no rules, but I’m just giving tips that I use and that I prefer and I feel that blending your makeup and making it look seamless is crucial in a great makeup look.
3) Wetting your brush before applying shimmery eyeshadow
This makeup tip has helped me so much. If you’re using a shimmery shade and feel that it doesn’t look as sparkly as it does in the pan, spray your brush with some setting spray or water and dip your brush into the pan and I promise you, this will help the shade pop and look amazing on the eye.
4) Build up the colour
If you’re working with pigmented products I believe that you should start with less amount of product and build up the colour, this way it is harder to make mistakes that you cannot fix without having to wipe off your makeup. Taking your time to apply the product will give you a much better result and will make your makeup look so seamless in comparison to quickly slapping on lots of product.
5) Colour correcting
Colour correcting is such a great way to cover up blemishes easily and to waste less concealer or foundation. If you colour correct, your blemishes will be concealed, meaning that you don’t have to use as much concealer or foundation as you would if you were just trying to mask the blemish with these foundations/concealers. There are many drugstore colour correctors out there that are amazing such as Maybelline or NYX.
6) Cleaning up your brows with concealer
I think this is such a great makeup hack. Sometimes your brows don’t go the way you planned and don’t look as great as you intended – we all know eyebrows are sometimes a nightmare to control. But if you clean them up with a thick concealer, they’ll look amazing. Your eyebrows frame your face so if you’re going to spend a large amount of time on one part of your face, this is what I suggest doing. Again, this tip isn’t for everyone, so you obviously don’t have to use this if you don’t want to.
7) Wait for the eyelash glue to get tacky
Fake eyelashes are so hard to apply when you first start out, they slide all over your lid and don’t seem to ever want to stay in place. However, if you apply the glue to the band and wait 20-30 seconds, the glue will start to get tacky and this will make it a whole lot easier to apply. They won’t slide around your eye and will stick straight on! Also, another tip that you could use is to trim your lashes to fit your eye if you feel that they are uncomfortable on your eyes!
8) Use one product for multiple things
This is such a great way to save money, you could use a contour kit for contouring, eyeshadow and eyebrow powder (if the colours match your hair colour of course). You could even use an eyeshadow pallet for contouring, blush, highlight and eyeshadow depending on what colours are in there. This way you won’t have to spend your money on a contour kit, blusher, eyeshadows, brow products etc. I find some eyeshadows are amazing for highlighting!
9) Find a foundation that works with your skin type and undertone
This seems like such an obvious tip, but in the past I have ran into these problems many times. Some foundations that claim to be ‘for oily skin’ or ‘for dry skin’ really haven’t worked with my skin. If you’re buying an expensive high end foundation, some stores allow you to ask for a sample first and this way you can really see whether the foundation does what it claims. Secondly, finding a foundation to match the undertone of your skin, especially if you’re not sure what undertone you are! There are many sites on google which explain how to figure out what undertone you are such as this site here.
10) You do you
My final tip is to be yourself when doing your makeup. There are no rules, use whatever colours you like, use whatever technique you want to use and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Doing makeup is a way to express yourself and can be a place to get away from the world and just be your unique self. You do you.
Thanks so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed my top tips! Hope to see you back soon.
