(Fun drinking game: take a shot every time you see the word highlight)
All jokes aside, today I wanted to share with you my favourite highlighters at the minute. Highlighter has become such an major phenomenon over the last few years which I believe was all started by the one and only Kim Kardashian and her makeup artist Mario who created ‘strobing’. I think highlighting the face just finishes off the look amazingly and can turn a bad makeup day into a fab one. I also sometimes wear highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones when I have no makeup on, just to make my face look more dimensional and to make it look like I have tried with my makeup (even though I literally just rolled out of bed and slapped on some highlight).
Anistasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit
I mainly love this kit as it has 6 stunningly beautiful shades in it which I feel are all tailored to complement different skin tones – there is even a white shade for all us whiter than white girls and boys out there! These unique shades can be paired with different eyeshadow looks e.g. the pinky shades could be used with a pink/red/burgundy look and the golden shades could be used with a bronze eye look. These highlights really are blinding but if you only tap your brush in the pan ever so lightly you can make the highlight less bright and can tailor it to your preference. However, if you really do not like bright highlight, this may not be the highlighting kit for you. This product is currently sold out as it was limited edition but upon speaking to some ABH staff I have found that their Sugar Glow Kit is pretty similar if you’re wanting to purchase this kit.
TheBalm Mary Lou Manizer
Everyone loves a drug store highlight that does it’s job and this is why I adore the Mary Lou Manizer by TheBalm. Retailing at only £16 at Debenhams this highlight will surely blind all the haters. Rather than looking wet on the skin, the highlight is slightly glittery, which I am not always a fan of but from time to time I love dipping into this product. The Lou Manizer is not as bright as the Anistasia Glow Kit, but for a drugstore highlight, it is one of the best that I have ever used. The tone of this highlight is perfect for those who have light to medium skin tones, but that’s not to say that lighter and darker skin tones cannot enjoy this highlight.
Urban Decay Shape Shifter
I realise that this product is not essentially a highlighter but there are two highlights in the pallet, a cream and a powder. If you’re looking for a powder highlighter that looks wet on the skin and are not a fan of glitter, this is the product for you. I absolutely love wearing this highlight alone or blending on top of another highlight if it is a tad bit too glittery. This highlight is amazing for that inner corner highlight on your eyes, it just makes your eyes look so much more awake and just finishes off any makeup look. The one criticism for this product is that I do not really like the cream highlight, I feel that it is too greasy and I do no get much pigment from it. I’m not really sure if it is just that I didn’t get a great product or that this cream really isn’t too good – please leave a comment if you have the same problem or know how to use the cream in a way to allow more pigmentation.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed & hope to see you back soon.
